Burst somebody’s bubble- (fig.) to destroy someone’s illusion or delusion; to destroy someone’s fantasy. To tell someone unexpected bad news.

En español creo que la expresión que mejor se ajusta es caerse de la nube / bajar a alguien de la nube, en el sentido de que estás ilusionado con algo/alguien, y de repente ves la realidad (o te la hacen ver) y resulta no ser como tú pensabas.

Pero, as usual, se admiten sugerencias.
